I have a new 512 Windows VPS. Its running MySQL 5.0, SmarterStats, SmarterMail, IIS 6.0 Anytime I do a maillist blast to my list ( 26,000 ) I get a problem with ceiling out my memory usage. the MailServer.exe ( smartermail ) climbs to over 110 Megs. Normally it says conservative at 30 Megs. I am trying to figure out what services ( windows ) I can disable to help free up memory. Right now I have to tell my client to not use the Webmail, as it will cause a 50 Meg spike within a W3wp.exe Application pool. I want to take my server down to barebones memory usage. Its only hosting 3 sites, which have low traffic ( under 1000 impressions daily )

What you're going to want to do is throttle your SMTP server and/or limit the number of threads that can be running simultaneously.
I do not know what the default settings on your server were, but I would say just to decrease the numbers (maybe by half to start?) and see if that helps. Some of the mail server applications available have CPU throttling, too, so you can tell it to never use more than X% of the CPU. Whatever your options are HMS should know and be able to help you with them. It's why I'm in the process of moving my business to them |

HMS came back with an answer.
Smartermail has a setting for maximum threads. By default it was set to 50 Threads. I took this down to 20 and now it doesn't take up so much memory. |
