| I have just purchased the foundation package with Miva Merchant. If I decide to have someone customize the site for me what should or shouldnt I do to the site first. All I have done so far is create the store. I have not created no catagories or products. I was a little disappointed at the small list of templates. |
Grammar Nazi tendencies aside, your best bet is to decide first what the content of your site is going to be. Your website is a marketing tool created specifically to sell your products. This means you need to have good organization first and good flow of information. It should be easy for someone to find what they are looking for in three clicks or less once they get to your site. Think along the lines of Amazon.com. Everything is very, very clearly laid out and easy to find. It's the classic example of how to lay out your site/store to find what you are looking for. When a company literaly invests two million dollars to determine that the color of a button can deter people from clicking, thus losing business.
The moral of the story: organization and layout will help you or hurt you. Choose wisely.
If you need help actually customizing the individual pages, there is a section in the Miva Merchant administrator, under your store, called Pages. If you click on edit next to the page you want to edit, you can change the code there. Lots of people tend to put custom global headers and footers in. The global header and footer option can be found by:
-Opening a browser
-Going to your store's admin link
-Log in
-Click on the + next to Stores
-Click your store's name
-Click Global Header and Footer
Just put what you want in there. If you have any questions, send an e-mail to
support@hostmysite.com.
