That's good to know that disabling the features will cut back on memory. Glad to hear you straitened it out. |

I figured it out.
on smarter mail 5 you have to uncheck some of the features like calendaring, notes, ext. Then the memory usage dropped from 300 MB to 87 MB. Glad that issues is solved.
Now to get MYSQL VM under control.
Thanks for your server stats for comparision! |

MEM = Memory Usage
VM - Virtual Memory Size
SmarterMail 5.0 is at
301 MB MEM, 313 MB VM
SmarterStats 4.0 is at
47 MB MEM, 53 MB VM
MySQL 5 is at
82 MB MEM, 532 MB VM
W3WP is at
177 MB MEM
199 MB VM
SmarterMail is running 1 domain which gets very little traffic, IMAP is disabled. |

Ok, Just checked memory stats on our server..
Server has been up for 45 Days
SmarterMail is at 66 MB
SmarterStats at 54 MB
Spam Assasin at 108 MB
SmarterMail gets hit pretty heavily as all clients utilize IMAP, so there are always lots of open connections. |

Thus far both programs are very stable, but I am worried about the high memory usage. I am on a 2GB windows VPS, so I have plenty of memory, but I am currently sitting at about 1.2GB usage, and if I get a traffic spike this could cause them to go over theoretically.
Before I got the Windows PRO 2GB VPS. I had run on a 1 GB VPS with other clients using the older versions of smartermail, and the memory usage was never an issue. I just don't understand why smartermail needs to take up this much memory. |

| I have both SmarterMail 5x and SmarterStats running on my dedicated, and they are very stable, and don't seem to be resource hogs. I'll double check their usage and post back. But I did notice when I was on a VPS, that they would frequently become unstable and crash. Maybe it's the virtual environment? |

Edit, I meant SmarterMail 5.0 and smarterMail 4.0 not smarterstats. Even though I do notice smarterstats using more memory than usual as well?
Is this just something special when you are running a VPS with windows 2003 x64? I can't imagine what its like for those guys on the 256 and 512 VPS boxes. They must ceiling out and crash frequently. |

|
I have noticed that smarterstats 5.0 on my windows VPS pro likes to sit idle running 1 website that has low email traffic and consuming over 300 MB of RAM.
While on another VPS I have, SmarterStats 4.0 is running about 8 domains, with moderate traffic. and this is only using 60 MB.
Any tips to get smarter mail 5.0 down to a reasonable level?
I know I have 2GB of memory on this VPS, but still I would prefer that memory stays available for the w3wp
Also how do I get mySQL to not take up 500 MEGS of RAM? Its only running one database that is about 70 Megs in size. |
