Yet another subdomain question

I've got the Linux starter account here, and my domain name HASN'T been transfered to HMS. My www.mydomain.com works great, and I set up an alias for forum.mydomain.com to point to the same address. Pinging boths shows the same IP address, but only one (www) goes to the site. The other goes to a "customer portal" page.

Later I tried just the numbers, and they went to the same place the forum.mydomain.com went to. Is this because I'm using the starter account (without a dedicated IP), or is there something I'm missing?

Yes, the linux starter plans are name based hosting. Send an e-mail to support, they have to setup a ServerAlias in apache to read off the subdomain.
