A little over one year ago, I paid my former web host $100 to keep my domain name active for another 3 years.

However, he only paid to have it registered for one year and now it has expired and is in redemption period status but over 30 days.

I contacted him and he told me that I might have to pay another $150 because it lapsed.

I feel I have been cheated.

What can I do to get control of my domain name?

Any Ideas?

Legal action is the only recourse here, simply because as far as ICANN is concerned the domain name expired as it's supposed to. If he registered it for multiple years then 'took it away from you' then ICANN could get involved I imagine. I'd have a lawyer draft up something to the effect of breach of contract and see what the webhost says then.
