Hi. I am a software developer, but I enjoy creating websites as a hobby. I recently opened a new account with HostMySite.com (HMS). My current Web Host (which does not support ASP.NET 2.0) expires in 4 months, so I wanted to start trying out some new, better sites before I renew.
I can't seem to find any examples on here. Does HMS have a section somewhere that gives examples of how to use their site? I was under the impression that HMS was geared towards developers. (Maybe that mean HMS assumes I already know what to do...) If I want to enable "write access" to my ASP.NET 2.0 folder, do I have to submit a ticket for that? What is the preferred path to the database? Does it use "relative" path? Does HMS offer little hit counter scripts or things like that? Does HMS have any website templates for use with ASP.NET 2.0? I'm just trying to feel my way around, and there is definitely a learning curve associated with switching hosts. I look forward to any help or suggestions - even offensive ones! |

You can submit a ticket to have the permissions added, but you also have the ability to do it in the control panel. It's under Website Administration-> File Permissions, from there select the directory/file then the Network Service(the .net user) and then manage. On the next page you can put the permissiosn you would like to set.
What kind of database are you using? Is there a DSN? The path you need to use will probably depend on the connection string you are using anyway... HMS doesn't really offer any little script things or the templates for asp, but you can find hit counters and those types of things on the net for free usually. Their support article for the control panel might help you a little bit as well http://hostmysite.com/support/cpanel/ |

I am a newbie when it comes to Net2 and MS Sql... I am teaching myself but have run into a snag setting up the connection between
the default login wizard that comes with Visual Web Developer 2005 express and the MS Sql database. Does anyone have a few hints that can point me in the right direction. I have a connection string and locally I can setup and use my websites login but it does not work once I have uploaded it to my HMS site. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks David Z |

David,
You may have to submit a ticket to have the permissions added or make that change yourself using the techniques described by the post by Connie. Personally, I didn't like HostMySite's slow response time and limited features, so I went somewhere else. Joe |
