Hello,

Anyone know where a SmarterMail list serv (set to reply to sender instead of the list) gets the Reply-to value from?

One of our user's list serv mailing are showing an incorrect reply-to which is different than the "From:" address.

Thnaks,
Craig

Craig,

There are two options - reply to the list address, or reply to the post. The 'default' value is reply to poster, however if you have "REPLY TO LIST" specified in the General Options of the list, any reply will instead goto the list address. If at that point you have the list address set to only accept posts from certain email addresses, whoever tries to reply will immediately recieve a bounced message saying they aren't authorized to post to the list.

The reply to sender (not reply to list) is determined by the user who posted to the list. If someone replies to an email received from the list it will go back to the person who originally sent the post. Even if the poster/ moderator has the reply to field completed with something other than there outgoing email address in the smartermail email settings the reply too should still be the same as the from field. The end user's email client will overlook that options when replying to an email sent from a list because there is not place to specify a reply to address other then that of the orginally sender. I.ve done about 6 different test useing a smartermail list account and sending to several different email address while viewing those emails in mac mail on a remote mac server, and outlook on a local machine, as well as another account using smartermail webmail. I'm not sure how your client was able to get smartermail to come up with an incorrect reply to address. After all my test it remained the from address of the original sender.
