Has anyone switched his/her store over to the latest version? Are there any new "goodies"? I went into the interactive demo and didn't really find any differences, but then again I only spent about 10 minutes looking.

I'm especially interested in the new mysql integration. Is that going to be available on HostMySite soon?

Miva 5 is avaliable and mysql is installed.
There are quite a few big changes with miva 5. For one thing they disabled OpenUi. So anyone who had openui on 4 is out of luck. It's pretty cool |

Removing OpenUI from Miva was a godsend in disguise... yeah, it made things alittle easier and alittle more flexible, but at the cost of ALOT of reliability and other problems...

I heard some rumor's that there was also a module or some utility that makes developing a Miva 5 site with Dreamweaver a lot easier.. anyone else know anything about this?

It's the first I've heard, but then I don't use miva at all, let alone extensively, so I wouldn't know... You'd still want to check the compatability to be sure it worked with Miva5

There has been an announcement about it on the Miva Small Business 05 Conference site.
More information will be available after the conference from 06.Sept.2005 to 09.Sept.2005. I think it's a fantastic idea, I hope it works. |

I have a mm5 store up and running but have not "switched". OpenUI has never caused too many reliability or other problems for me and my clients. Usually, those problems are with the host, other 3rd-party modules, etc. Without OpenUI, you lose a ton of features both on the frontend AND backend. That isn't to say that mm5 sucks. It is pretty cool, and the applications that should be forthcoming in php that will integrate with the mysql backend should be cool. The problem with MM5 right now are bugs and lack of 3rd-party modules. The contract that 3rd-party developers must sign is also causing a problem.
I spoke at the miva conference and attended the dreamweaver plugin session. Compatibility with mm5? I believe it will only be for mm5, so no compatibility issue there. Looked okay, but it won't be available for awhile. A similar utility available now for both mm4 and mm5 is the Advanced WYSIWGY Html Editor. Jason JMH |
