I think it's about time poor ol' SmarterLinux.com got a makeover! Surprised

I've seen 2 or 3 new designs for HMS in the past couple of years, but not for SmarterLinux........

Any plans in the future for SmarterLinux?

Will the SmarterLinux prices be increased to reflect the prices on the Linux Hosting plans? Particularly on the ColdFusion plan, the price has gone up by 30%.

Or, put another way, have the features been upated as well?

I was going to get a SmarterLinux CF plan within a month. Maybe I should hurry and do so to lock in the price?

I don't mean for my post to sound negative, but the pricing did jump out at me.

Thanks,
Patrick

There are many new features in the HostMySite Linux plans. First, all HostMySite Linux plans run on RedHat Enterprise Linux which is an officially supported distribution by Macromedia. Disk space has been upgraded, as well as the MySQL database platform. ColdFusion runs exclusively on CF Enterprise with sandbox security allowing us to offer nearly all CF tags with security. Pricing for HostMySite Linux plans is a bit more than SmarterLinux, however the pricing is in line with our existing HostMySite Foundation and Builder plans. We wanted to make choosing Linux about picking the right platform, not about price. The additional cost compared to SmarterLinux is also reflective of the costs associated with beefier servers, a commercial Linux distrubution, and a version of ColdFusion that is more suited for the task but also 5x the price.

That being said, SmarterLinux plans aren't going away (yet) and we don't want to impose a burden on any customers that are planning to order them. The SL platform still has some room for growth, so we can continue taking orders for the foreseeable future. When we do make the consolidation, we will give PLENTY of notice and make sure that customers are not negatively impacted. In the mean time, I would highly recommend checking our our HMS Linux plans. We put a lot of time, thought, and development into making sure the quality of service is nothing less than excellent.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to contact me! We appreciate your business.

Thank you Lou. I think your forum post is reflective of the commitment to that high level of service. I appreciate you taking the time to respond. With regard to the pricing and to be fair, the HMS Linux CF plan is certainly competitive with other offerings. I didn't mean to imply that it was unusually high (it isn't). It's the SmarterLinux pricing that is unusually low (and I'm not complaining).

Thanks again,
Patrick

One of the reasons I use a SmarterLinux plan is for small sites that don't need much in the way of features. On those the pricing is attractive, and if it's an 8 page, straight html site, they don't need more disk space, higher monthly transfer, more email accounts, etc. So, it seems there is definitely a need for the Smarter Value type of plan. I hope these don't go away.

I'd have to agree. I'd HATE to see SmarterLinux go. Approximately 1/3rd of my sites with HMS are on a SmarterLinux plan.
