I've been extremely expressed so far. Just need time to play with all the new features. My upgrade went flawlessly and all my apps work fine.

Both AppleInsider and independent MacRumors sources claim that Apple has seeded the first builds of 10.4.1 to developers. The build is said to fix more than 20 bugs already reported to Apple regarding various software and hardware incompatabilities with Tiger. Key issues regarding stability and reliability of the OS as a whole are the focus, along with user issues with certain D-link networking equipment.
According to the rumor site, the forthcoming update is expected to be released mid to late-May. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok... only 20... that is SO awesome. I think XP had like 580-something upon it's release... only 20 is amazing. Go Mac go! |

I'm sure if I had to write an update that worked on ONE platform that I built MYSELF it would probably work...writing an update for hundreds and thousands of disparate pieces of equipment built, by God knows who, and God kows how, might be a tad more difficult. You might run into some snags and the occasional blow-up.
I mean, if I went to Chrysler and wanted a new carbureator for my car - if I bought it from Chrysler - I'd expect it to work...same thing with Apple. If I bought a Mac and then they updated thier OS - it had better dang well work - they built the stinking machine... So - until I can install a MacOS on my PC with MY video card and MY processor and MY motherboard and MY networkcard etc, I'll still consider it less than an OS like Windows or Linux. |

well Scott since ms has all the $$ in the world and all the staff then you should expect them to have a better piece of software to deliver than the crap they do!
For gawds sakes their own updates dont even work 3/4 of the time with their own os, thats just plain ole **** pathetic!! Then there are their "security" updates, whats a joke, all they really do is shut down services, well everyone elses services but not their own and last I checked it's their services that are the problem, all that $$ and all those brains can't figure that out??
Funny scott lmfao, this is what i was just saying above, and with Apple is does work with winblows and it's a gamble everytime, gee I wonder why they came up with system restore haha.
So when its sinks to the subpar system level of a pc then you'd try it? nice Why dont you go try one 4 a week scott and then come say its less of an OS, but you won't, you will say, "dang, this is the way an OS is supposed to be". I'll admit, I always hated macs but I hadn't used one in like 8 years until katie brought hers over and I was like dang, os x is pretty dang nice and before that I wouldnt even concider it, wasn't even a thought. Then I tried it 4 a week and there is no way in helll I would go back to swiss cheese. |

Yea Josh - he doesn't really READ anyones posts but his own...he TOTALLY missed what I was saying in my post cuz he's SO one tracked in his thinking. I bet lofty gets about 4 sentences into a post - sees that we might be praising some of the things that MS has done, gets SOOOOO mad that he HAS to post and forgets to read the whole thing before he starts his reply rant.
I will reitterate... If I made my own machine, with my own in house hardware, adn my own in house software, created by my own in house engineers, that I designed, assembled by my own in house technical staff, and then I made an update to one or the other - it had better work. If not - I need to fire some people. If I made a piece of software, that worked on hunders or thousands of totally different pieces of hardware with thousands or hundreds of thousands (dare I say MILLIONS?) of different configurations, on configurations assebled by "Joe the plumber" at home on a weekend, and it worked on even 75% of those disparate configurations, I'd consider it a success. And, like it or not, Windows DOES work. THose PC's will get up and run and be productive. I'll bet you that Windows as an OS (all flavors) has a better than 75% sucess rate. Yes there are security patches and yes there are problems and yes MS makes some other crappy software (FP & IE anyone?) but if you can't admit that what MS has pulled off with Windows as an OS is pretty dang amazing...then you are either blind, stupid or both. It may NOT be superior to Apples OS, but the fact that you can use Windows on nearly any configuration of PC that you can dream up makes it a superior product in my book because I have choice. More choice than with Apple anyway. Linux is even MORE amazing in this respect because it doesn't really have a corporate structure behind it pushing it's development, certain flavors do, but as a whole it doesn't and it too can be run on just about anything you can dream up. Can't do that with Apple. Maybe if more of the non-geek out there would try an Apple they'd like it more. People that don't care about the underlying hardware maybe SHOULD try a Mac. Maybe they'd be MUCH happier. But in my geeky, overly technical, "like to play with my own hardware configuration and tweak as much performance out of my machine for gaming as I can" mind...Mac OS is still inferior. I will ask you this - if I wanted to run a webserver with a database off a Mac - what software would I be running? Is there server type software for Mac's out there? Can I put in a third party video card in my mac if I so choose? Like an ATI or NVidia chipset card? What about sound? Can I put in the latest Creative Labs sound card into a Mac if I want to? I don't THINK I can, but again, I'm not up to date on what you can do and can't do with a Mac because it used to be that you couldn't do that kind of thing. You had to wait untill Big Brother, err...Uncle $teve Job$...err...Apple decided I needed an upgrade. |
