How can I put in meta tags for my site's "home" page. This site is entirely miva. I have tried the global header, but it puts the meta tags after the </head> tag and I want it within the head tag.
Thanks

I don't think it is actually possible to modify or add any tags to the <head> area of the miva merchant scripts as the administration area only stores information in the database to then be later loaded into the <body> area dynamically (such as graphics and links etc...). A workaround would be to setup an index page to your store, one that you create manually that would include meta tag data (for search engines). You can then create links on that index page that would go to your miva merchant store.

Try to a point, you can do this with the addition of OpenUI (www.designextend.com) however, even the most "basic" version of OpenUI can cause site bloat is not administered carefully. (Also, never do one of their "critical updates" unless you have a day or two to kill debugging the latest release.)

What version? Uncompiled allows you to hack it. Compiled lets you modify it if you have the source and compiler or pay someone who does. Or you can just get the OpenUI which will allow this and much more. It gives you access to the head and body tag. BTW, I have installed OpenUI on hundreds of sites, and I have never seen a noticeable difference in speed/performance just by installing the OpenUI. It also has a settings export and import feature, and a rolback feature to previous versions. So don't be scared by other posts. The problems I see are when stores are hosted on overloaded servers, hosts who don't specialize in miva merchant, etc.

So is there a way to add a DOCTYPE declaration BEFORE the miva <html> tag, and edit the Miva tags as they are all in upper casing.

My clients site is all XHTML strict and IE 6 renders the CSS incorrectly because of the absence of the DOCTYPE declaration. It has to come BEFORE the html tag

Help?

Here is a tutorial on how to do it.
Also, I am publishing an article this month in our newsletter about how to put unique meta description and keyword tags for each individual product and category.

For doctype: Compiled, just need the compiler and it is free now. Uncompiled, nothing else needed except notepad.

Jesus christ, Miva compiler does not work on OS X. Could I possibly dislike Miva anymore than I do right now.

I fixed the links that hostmysite rewrote. Go back to the original post.

wicked thanks! just read the tutorial, i'm adding a link to it from my website too to save people slitting their wrists in future. Surely if they could make a build for linux why not just do one for OS X (discrimination in disguise)

I'm going to get the linux install on my linux box and read up miva script, I see a whole new world of possibilities... for the CSS problem, i simply opened another head tag and used the the link to stylesheet as well as <style type="text/css">@import url(linktocss.css); </style> and IE 5 sees that.

Thanks again.

(i think Miva shout have a drop down with the ability to add a doctype its a straight forward thing and ability to add stylesheets etc by asking the user for the style sheet url...)

No problem. That is what OpenUI is for. It has this last feature.
