Wow... that's quite the busy design. I've never worked w/ .netnuke... actually, I steer clear of any premade applications like that. Im fearful that somebody'll find a bug or hack to exploit, and because I use the same thing as alot of other people i'll be just as vulnerable to an exploit.

That and I'm hard headed... even though I may be reinventing the wheel, I just like knowing exactly what's going on and how to fix it, alter it, etc.

well that's the layout for just the front page, it's supposed to be kinda busy - the subpages will be devoid of all that and look more like what is up there now except with content in the center.

I agree about someon finding a hack and exploiting...but that's a risk I'm willing to take on this one...

I think it's less about only the front page looking busy as it is about the experience the user has on the site and how to make them stay. Sure it's cool looking but what is your core user and what other sites like you are trying to create look like. What is more likely to come up is the amount of separate images, their sizes and the load times of the page. It's going to take forever to load ok a 56K dialup and you'll want to make it no more than 920 pixels wide. It looks cool and very worn.

It's 994 right now and that's to fit a 1024 width. Why do you choose 920?

With this site, I'm not really worried too much about the 56kers because my target audience probably will have very VERY few of them. If however enough people complain, then I'll change it.

As it stands the front page is 266k and that's before I've optimized the images...I'm pretty sure it'll come down about 100k before I'm done with it...more to come...

Ow, that was mean! I mean you don't just go and call someone a FrontPage user lightly. That's like a Triple-Dog Dare or calling someone a lawyer. Try to play more nicely in the future Laughing

I say 920 because that will fit in a full sized new browser window on a 1024x768 screen without side scrolling. Users hate side scrolling. Also, when a visitor comes to a website, you have approximately three seconds to catch their attention and then they start to want to move on to another site. This is something basic when you're dealing with a sales oriented site. Now, I know your site is not sales oriented, but the principles regarding visitors and repeat visitors are the same. Your design through simplicity and ease of use will make for more repeat visitors and happier users.

bo bum actually has a clue so thats not an issue with him

as far as fp users go, well i think they know how i stand on that 1 lol

and btw~ i dont have any problems making a fp user aware of the crap it really is

I hate sidescrolling too...994 should fit in a full sized 1024 browser without scrolling as well - albeit with a little less padding on the sides of the screen than 920 Wink ...if it doesn't on your screen lemme know what setup you have and I'll take a look at it on my end.
