Well, it's a snow day here in northern Illiniols so I thought I'd continue the outlook- thunderbird discussion. I used to use outlook all the time for email, contacts, scheduling and tasks. Then we switched to ACT for everything but email. Act does email - just not well enough for me. Now in Outlook I can email someone from the act database and the email shows up attached to their contact - which is nice. But there are obvious advantages to switching to Thunderbird- security being a big one. And I don't want to switch to Outlook Express - no point in that, but it would be nice to have a smaller app open - hence thunderbird. So - right now both have their good and bad points. It really depends on what you use them for.

Thunderbird lost a whole lot of credibility on my ticket when they released a build that didn't properly POP inboxes if the POP3 server was Imail Server. There was some other mailserver software that also triggered this odd bug but I don't remember what.

That's kind of like releasing a web browser that won't bring up websites hosted on a certain type of server. I know it's a fairly uncommon error, but still something that the developers should have tested beforehand!

Use Forte Agent - and get a newsreader to boot...I've been using Agent for at least 8 or 9 years now.

Have yet to get an email virus...or any stupid HTML email for that matter...

Hey - that's another thing - who was the genious that decided to put webpages in my email dammit.
If I want a webpage - I open up a browser - if I want email - I go to my email box.

Oh that's right...it was a Microsoft idea...

Jamie,

A client that I do work for is absolutely scared of Outlook for "security issues". This is an automotive dealer that has most of its sacred information hosted on ADP servers where they connect through telnet sessions. What ammunition can I use to ease his mind about the issue? Is this Thunderbird email client any more secure?

PS if you answered this in a previous thread, please direct me.

Thanks,

ABSOLUTELY!!
Not full of security bugs - I can open an email infected with Klez and know that I won’t be automatically infected. And not a security patch in sight.
