Newbie question:
I'm a very new Dreamweaver user. I created a basic home page until the "real" site is done. I iuploaded & inserted a 32 bit .png file of my logo, which contains an alpha channel, to "cookie cut" this logo over my webpage background. It looks fine in my DW preview, but in the browser the alpha is not recognized. I also tried exporting a .gif with alpha, but that didn't work either. What am I doing wrong? Thank you. |

Well, if you are using IE, I don't think it ever supported PNG transparency correctly...

How about .gif transparency?

Gif is supported by IE. If you need to use that then use that, but remember that it's a very rough and aged way to do things. You're going to get MUCH better results w/ PNG and a Mozilla based browser.

Yeah, the IE PNG support is a crime, especially now that they updated IE in SP2 and still did nothing about it. I believe there are some CSS hacks to use a JPG/GIF in IE and a PNG in all decent browsers. Places like "a list apart" do some really crazy things with CSS that are worth checking out if you're bored or impressed by stuff like that

There's a server-centric hack called IE7 - I'm going to begin using it.
http://dean.edwards.name/IE7/ It works really really well and not only does it fix all the malrendering issues but it even adds support for things like Transparent PNG's *HALLELUJAH!!!* lol Check it out. You'll never be able to steer people away from IE, but if you can take away it's issues with one fowl swoop then why not, right? |

Too late - I've steered pretty much everyone I know with a computer away from IE already |

Uhm, I think you meant one 'fell' swoop? Unless you were talking about the flight path of a duck? |

A gif with transparancy should solve your problems.

so does IE have any issues playing Flash content? My slide show has some hiccups ... I'm suspect it's only in IE. Anybody care to take a look in other browsers?
