What I've come to find is not only that it's alot more difficult to get the SAME EXACT Layout with DIV's that you can get with Tables, but that it involves ALOT LESS code and ALOT MORE flexibility. That would be the single largest gain for me.

I thought the same way you did at first Josh - that CSS for positioning was a LOT tougher than it needed to be, but the more and more I work with them, the more and more I *think* in terms of divs and floats and not in rows and columns and it comes much more naturally to think that way than it EVER did with table rows and columns. It's like going from structured programming to OOP - it's a pradigm shift in the way you have to think about sites.

When you are designing layout with CSS it's like building your site with blocks (or objects for those developers out there) versus designing it with Lincoln Logs. What I mean by that is CSS is so much more flexible than the tables once you understand the box model. You don't have to worry about cutting up little tiny slices of images, you don't have to worry about valign=top or valign=bottom etc...

The single hardest concept for me to grasp in CSS was the float & clear. Once I got that I was hooked. It's as if it all made sense and all of a sudden I was able to see sites in the "blocks".

The one thing about CSS for positioning is that you have to get the idea of pixel correctness out of you head. It doesn't exist and can't in today's environment. Effective use of whitespace and user readability/accesibility are the things to keep in mind when using CSS for positioning.

^^^ Exactly... float and clear were my hardest to grasp also. Agreed about the pixel stuff too... I've been moving more and more to EMs... the only thing I don't think really applies to EMs is width, height, etc.

ok, the gist of this is that doing website layout with FORMS is bad. Given that, how wyoud you do it in another way and get better results? Also, what program would you use to ijmplement it?

You almost HAVE to have forms in your layout...
Or are you talking about like Windows Forms in Visual Studio?

I mean central to any modern website is the liberal use of forms...clarify exactly what you mean there please
Never thought I'd say it
