After having done all my recent work in CSS, I went back toa legacy site I was the admin of to do some new work on it - and - OMG I HATE TABLES

I feel SOOOOOOOOO handcuffed!

I never EVER thought I'd say that but man alive...tabled designs are SO clunky and filled what I now see as hacks to make things fit and look correctly. After doing that work - I feel - dirty...

That why I create my tables in Frontpage.

*runs and ducks for cover*

I do the rest of the coding by hand.

I know how to make tables in HTML, I just get bored typing <tr><td></td></tr> over and over again. I also hate having to figure out the rowspan and colspan when I need to merge rows and columns. I also worked for a web development company that only used Frontpage. The only thing that saved my sanity was that Frontpage has an HTML view.

Here's an idea (and a suggestion that I used myself) - don't use tables. Use Layers!!! Wink No more <tr><td></td></tr> Wink

What's the cross-browser support on Layers like?

Pretty good actually... As bobum has pointed out sometimes you need to implement a small (very simple) css hack (or 2 or 3 Wink), but the hack doesn't affect other browsers, so not only do they fix IE but they don't impede the others.

In fact, I noticed hizzlemahshizzle.com's homepage utilizes layers, except for one table (which is used properly - to contain tabular data)... and they page displays nicely using whatever Very Happy
