How do I perform a registrar transfer to HostMySite.com?
If you want to initiate a registrar transfer with a HostMySite.com hosting account, these are the following steps that typically occur to get your domain pointing to us: 1) Ensure that the administrative contact for your domain name is pointing to a valid e-mail address. You can check this by performing a WHOIS lookup on your domain name at any WHOIS lookup service, such as http://hostmysite.com/whois/ or http://xwhois.com . You will need to be able to access the administrative e-mail address on file for the domain name. If the e-mail address in not valid, you will need to contact your current registrar and have them change it for you or login into your registrar account with your credentials. 2) Contact HostMySite.com by phone, e-mail (support@hostmysite.com), or live chat and request that we initiate a registrar transfer for your domain. 3) Once we have initiated a registrar transfer you will receive an e-mail from TuCows/OpenSRS confirming that you want to perform this registrar transfer. You will need to login to your e-mail account and confirm this e-mail verification. 4) You will then receive another confirmation e-mail from your current registrar in which yuo will also need to confirm. 5) Once you have confirmed both e-mails sent to you, the registrar transfer will then truly begin. It can take a few days to fully make the change. Once changed it will be under the TuCows/OpenSRS account when you perform a WHOIS lookup. 6) You will want to ensure that your name servers point to us correctly. Our nameservers for our shared windows plans are ns1.lnhi.net and ns2.lnhi.net . You can manage your transferred domain name at the control panel of https://manage.opensrs.net to manage your name servers, or contact us at anytime. Lastly, don't forget. A registrar transfer is free for all yearly hosted plans for that domain and only a one-time $20 fee for quarterly accounts. Once transferred to us, another year will be added to the expiration date.. just like you renewed the domain. |

Correction: Registrar transfers now cost $12 instead of $20 if the domain isn't included with your hosting plan.
Also, a note on step 4) from above,
If you do not recieve a confirmation notice from your current registrar, you will need to contact them directly to discover why. Often they will auto-deny all transfer requests in the name of 'security', and attempt to make it more difficult for you to transfer your domain away from their service. Why? Because once you transfer they lose business, so it's in their best interest to give you the run around. If you have trouble dealing with their technicians, send an email to domains@hostmysite.com and I'll contact the recalcitrant registrar for you - I already have a reputation for dealing with Network Solutions, ItsYourDomain.com, Register.com, and most recently Names4Ever. |

Also, when you request a transfer and you don't get the email, check your bulk mail or spam folders. Many providers see domain transfer emails as spam and will automatically block it for you.
I personally own a few domain names and get at least 2 to 3 transfer requests a day from people trying to steal my domains. So if you are not sure it is from us or from your other domain provider feel free to contact us and we will help you determine if it is valid. |

I have a client that we are trying to transfer to HMS. When he asked his current host to unlock and change the admin email on his domain, they sent an email with password info to log into his cPanel interface. I've logged in, but cannot seem to find any link that will allow the nameservers to be changed. If anyone has used cPanel, I would appreciate any guidance.

with cPanel/WHM you can run your own custom nameservers and edit dns zones of sites that us those nameservers (if you have a reseller/vps/root account), but cPanel is not a domain registrar. To change which nameservers a domain uses, you won't be able to do that there.
Go here, enter in the domain name you're looking to transfer, then scroll down to the Registry Data (look for ICANN Registrar), and that will tell you where the domain is registered. |
