Hey all,

I'm new to this forum, so be gentle. Smile

I'm creating a COLDFUSION website that will be launched this weekend (www.noisebug.net). I'd like to incorporate some kind of SEARCH. I know nothing - repeat, nothing - on how to do this in ColdFusion. I built the site in CF, but the search thing alludes my grasp. I've looked at the Adobe Documentation but am stumped. Anyone have any inside knowledge to make this a reality? Here's what I'd want:

1. Text Box where you put in your search critiera.
2. Results page where the DB is queried and gieves you a list of URL's (dynamically generated, of course) that contains the search critiera.

Anyone know of a way to do this fairly innocently? Smile

THANKS!

- mike.

Is your site database driven? If so, you can use Verity which is built in with CF. It is very easy to use and incorporate. You can read more here:

http://livedocs.adobe.com/coldfusion/8/htmldocs/help.html?content=verityutils_01.html

We use verity in our CMS and ECommerce engines and it works very well, and we find it extremely fast and efficient.

If your site is not database driven, consider implementing google search into your site.

Jason,

The site is indeed 100% database driven in ColdFusion, but setting _up_ the verity and search queries for said search is not something I know how to do - hence my original post Smile

Start off with a simple step by step tutorial with examples:

Part 1: http://tutorial85.easycfm.com/
Part 2: http://tutorial121.easycfm.com/

If you are on a shared server, contact support, and tell them to setup a Verity collection for you, and give them the name you want your collection called, and they will set it up for you.

These will definitely help you get off the ground with verity. There is so much stuff you can do with verity, but this will get you down with the very basics. You can then reference the Adobe CF8 Live Docs to expand further.

Give the example a try, and if you are having a hard time, just come back here and I'd be happy to help you were you are stuck. Smile

I'm having serious trouble with this thing. Please email me privately (syrinx@progscape.com) and I can show you how I'm trying to get this thing to work and failing miserably. I need this pretty ASAP, as my client is starting to not understand how hard this is...

Thanks!
