So I've got a medium size app that is Mach-ii, ColdSpring && Transfer. On my laptop the site rocks on performance, even the initial load from a cold CF start is pretty quick.
I've now uploaded the application to my HostMySite account and the performance is ABSOLUTELY unacceptable. The initial load times are so slow it usualy times out and throws an error...
Once it loads it is very snappy and responds well. However seemingly after 15 minutes or so of inactivity the application appears as though it's starting from a cold state, like i sent the reload command (but I didn't). It doesn't seem to matter if my application timeout is set to 2 hours or 2 days... It's almost like it's being ignored.
Does HMS have some sort of bad practice of forcing my application timeout to extremely low? The performance is so bad I'm quickly looking at moving hosting companies. I don't have nearly the load to justify even a shared co-located server or VPS server.
Does anyone have any suggestions advice or experience in this area? I've always been extremely happy with HMS customer service but I've always had bad luck in terms of talking to someone who can help me in this general area.

You might want to ask what version of the JVM the server is running. I think 1.6 has issues with all the components required by Cold Spring.
