Double login with .htaccess

I'm on a Linux account and have created a basic .htaccess login for an intranet directory using the control panel. It works fine and users can access internal pages without a hitch. When they attempt to view an image gallery (plogger) within the intranet, though, they are required to log into the .htaccess screen again.

When I don't require a login for the intranet, everything is accessible to a visitor. The double login only occurs when I use it with the intranet directory. Any suggestions for setting this up so users only have to log in once?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Are the images stored in a separate folder with another .htaccess file? Just a guess, but that might cause what you are seeing.

Just checked the site and you're right! There was an .htaccess file that included a start/stop command for the gallery script, but didn't refer to logins. I downloaded a backup of the file and deleted it from the directory. I've cleared my cache and reloaded the site: same problem. I log into the main intranet and access most content okay, but if I try to view the gallery I'm forced to log in again. What's weird is that if I remove the .htaccess from the main intranet directory, the second login doesn't appear.

I bounced this off one of my colleagues here and one idea he had is that if the URL is changing, that might do it. Is the gallery at the same domain name or does it change? For instance, are you at domain.com then you go to www.domain.com ?

Or are you on the site securely with https: then switching to standard http: ?

Are you on the shared secure URL like https://www##.safesecureweb.com/domain, then switching to the standard URL?

Just some thought, I am kinda thinking out loud. Let me know how it goes!

Bingo!

The gallery is within a directory of the main site, but when I checked my gallery admin panel, it specified http://site instead of http://www.site. I made the change and the double login is now gone!

You guys rock! Thank you!
