HostMySite has finally released another VPS plan with lots of disk space and ram with excellent features:
http://www.hostmysite.com/vps/windows/professional/ Although for the price, a dedicated server might be the way to go. |

the 100GB of disk space. Is this on a single drive or is it divided up on three drives like th 1 GIG VPS. Or is it on a single logical drive, but on several physical drives via RAID? Yeah considering you can colocate for around $150 / month. Those prices are a bit high. Cheaper to find a server off Ebay then ship it off to HMS for colo. Of course if you run your own box. You don't get access to the platoon of Dedicated Server support staff.

We've had our server in colo for a little over 2 months now, and the dedicated support is fantastic. Our server mysteriously had problems when they put it on the rack, and they called me, and worked them out for me without question. That kind of service is why we now colo with HostMySite. |

Yeah co-lo is hard to beat if you know how to administer a server.
That dive space is allocated as one drive on the VPS Pro. The hardware node is configured in a RAID 10 setup. -Dave |

jason. can i ask what sort of bandwidth you got for your colo server and any specifics your server hardware had to be for hms to host or probs you came up against.
my vps isnt working out for me (memory/hdisk space etc). colo might be a option. |

malik, I found that colo is definitely the way to go price wise. As long as you are willing to take on the responsibility for the hardware failures in the middle of the night. Our VPS wasn't working out either which is why we switched. We have much more stability and speed now on our own box than we used to. I believe our bandwidth is 2TB a month. Although, from what I was told they don't stick you on overages as long as the overages arn't consistent. The only specifics on hardware was the size of the server chassis. We have a tower instead of a standard sized 1U rack mount. Setup cost for the tower was double at $199, but hardware wise, it was cheaper to build. HMS data centers are definitely kept cool. The server runs a cool 72 degrees fahrenheit. As opposed to 108 degrees in our shop I worked with Jamie to get my server up and running. He was very helpful, and always promptly responded to all questions and concerns. IF you have any other questions, or need more details, just let me know. |

Thanks (belatedly) for the kind words. I would say that colo is a great option pricewise as it's definitely cheaper than dedicated, but there are two major points in which dedicated beats colo: 1. In a dedicated environment HMS is responsible for the hardware, so our 1 hour hardware replacement clause comes into effect for any faulty part. In colo if your ram or hard disk fails you've got to send us replacement parts, or hope that we have compatible parts in-house and purchase them directly from us then pay us by the hour to work on the replacement. 2. In a colo environment if you want to upgrade your hardware you have to purchase new hardware, ship it to us, then handle the migration yourself. In dedicated, we will upgrade the hardware for you after about 18 months by adjusting your contract to the new price. There's generally no setup fee, and we'll migrate drives for you (if possible) to ensure minimum downtime. Everything else being equal, I would only suggest colo if you are located nearby our datacenter (geographically speaking) or if you already have hardware that you wish to make use of and aren't worried about upgrading anytime in the forseeable future. |
