So here's a fun topic- I created a SmarterMail website according to some instructions and found the login link to smartermail which appeared to take me to a working site. That's when I realized there was already a smartermail site preconfigured on the VPS.
I wanted to delete the one I made to avoid any chance of them getting confused with each other (I've had the unfortunate habit of breaking things lately), but the problem was, I didn't remember which one was preconfigured and which was created by me. Easy solution. All I had to do was stop one and see if the website was still up, right? Wrong. And now for the punchline: IIS says both websites are stopped, yet the site works. How? =0'' ' ![]() |

When you load up SmaterMail in your browser, does the URL happen to contain port 9998? (http://127.0.0.1:9998)? If so, then the SmarterMail web server is running. If you are going to use IIS (which is recommended) then you need to disable the built in web server in SmarterMail.
To do this, find the "web server configuration" from the start menu in the SmarterTools Folder. Stop the service, and disable it, then re enable one of your IIS websites. |

Hey.
Disable the SmarterMail Web Service and run it only through IIS. -Ray |

Oh well- I was excited to think I found a technical anomaly.
Thanks both of you for the replies; my smartermail is now configured in IIS and enjoying the benefits of my "mail" cname thanks to this. 3 problems knocked off with 1 clever stone. |
