I've got a VPS site and I'm thinking of downgrading to a Builder .NET+ site.

Any way to assess the what the performance differences might be?

You have a windows Base and want to downgrade to a .NET Builder plan? You would loose all administrative access that you have with a VPS, but it really depends on your site the performance impact.

I am assuming that you are running an windows site and need asp.net or asp. If its static pages, you could easily move down to a .net builder box. But if its dynamic you might be taking a performance hit. I have noticed that the shared servers are pretty slow on closing out MySQL connections, so if you have a DB intense site I would keep it on the VPS. On one of my sites I am running a 256 windows VPS Plus a Linux plan just for the Email, MySQL DB and Stats server. This allows the VPS to just focus on the website.

I agree on the database comments. We moved a clients CF application (a true app not web site) from shared to a VPS. Performance is great.
