Why not a Perl forum?

I use both PHP and Perl. PHP is easier and simpler (aside from the annoying 'globals glitch') but Perl is the most powerful scripting language ever invented. With Perl everything is possible. How about a forum for Perl? And maybe one for metatools? (I'm thinking of HTP.)

Dean,

Hopefully you didn't give up! We have both forums now and would welcome your participation. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Regards,
Lou

the thing with perl is this
really it was the 1st way to add some dynamics to websites but it never evolved. Then coldfusion (actually cold fusion in those days) as an easier way to do perl and coldfusion is still here going strong and evolving.

i guess u could say php is the new perl as that is where it is derived from.
but too me thats a sure mess of code!

my guess is that MM is trying to get cfm up there with jsp in terms of power and its getting very close! I should try some jsp as i get to know actionscripting, its really not much different then jsp. but then again why do that when u can do it in cfm??

I would say back in the day perl was the bomb, but now application servers geared to specific types of environments and applications are better. IE, have you tried to do a web service with Perl? Painful isn't bad enough to describe it, because there is no module out there to generate WSDL files. It's a by hand type of thing.

Plus Perl or PHP on Windows is not what you would call reliable or stable.

awwee that's not true... I haven't taken my server down in over 4 months, and the last time I did it wasn't because of any instabilities... it was because I upgraded a piece of software. And even then I didn't HAVE to restart it, but I chose to.

I run 2003 server and don't have ANY problems... NONE... whatsoever.
