I've used this and don't care for it one bit. It relies heavily on MS's idea of the way things should be done, and if you disagree then you're just SOL. I use DreamWeaver MX 04 for the autocomplete and syntax highlighting niceness, and because DW is much more standards compliant. It also suggests that you do things a certain way, but doesn't enforce that. I like the flexibility.

I don't really care for it either. I use Visual Studio.NET 2003, so I use that instead. I've started playing with developing .NET in Dreamweaver, but I'll probably stick with Visual Studio. Go with what you know, ya know.

The only drawback to Visual Studio.NET is that you have to have FP Extensions installed and most of us know how much of a headache those can be. If they aren't configured just right, you'll get a generic error message when you try to run a page, even though you are able to open/create a new project with Visual Studio.

Come to find out we get VStudio as part of our MSDN subscription, so 4 hours later Smile I was using that. Now all I have to do is get out of VB thinking and into C# syntax, which is what I prefer to use.

I'm still really haze on permissions in .NET and the whole assembly thing. I find the lack of help in the .NET framework config, in the control panel annoying.

Know of any really good articles that explain the assembly security/permissions. I'm mainly looking for how an assembly runs when it's invoked as a web service.

Check out the security section of patterns and practices: http://www.microsoft.com/resources/practices/application/security.mspx.

In particular there's an HTML version of a book MSDN was giving away at MSDN events on ASP.NET security: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnnetsec/html/secnetlpMSDN.asp?frame=true

The specific section on Web Services is: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnnetsec/html/SecNetch10.asp

Also, if you're an MSDN subscriber and you log in to the Microsoft forums with your MSDN ID, then you're guaranteed to get a response from an MS person in a number of the forums (including the .NET security one). I'm not sure if this is for all MSDN levels or not.
