Why do I get hits when I run my email through the spamcop blacklist when Smartermail is already supposed to be using spamcop. Can flag spam by country of origin in Smartermail?

It's because SpamCop thinks you are a source of Spam. Check the reports in SmarterMail to see if there are an unusual number of emails coming from your server.

No, I'm sorry I didn't make myself clear. I have another program that will check emails I receive against various blacklist and it is finding some of the senders addresses in the Spamcop database. This doesn't make sense since I thought Smartermail was already checking Spamcop and that is my question, why?

Do you have the spam settings configured to reject the message if it shows up on the list? By default, there are three spam lists checked and each assigns a weight of 10 to a message. So if it is only on SpamCop but not the others it will get a spam weight of only 10, which usually is allowed through.
If you haven't done this in the past, you can find more info here: http://www.hostmysite.com/support/smartermail4/domainfilter/ Hope this helps! If not please feel free to give us a ring. Regards, Dave Malone |

Yeah the settings all look good. If the emails that get through are not on a whitelist in your admin, then I am not sure what would be going on.
If the scanner you have that checks SpamCop is run after the fact, it is possible that a site was listed after the message got to the server. Doesn't seem like that would happen a lot though. Also, to get back to the original question, there is no way to identify the country of origin in the spam filters. If things keep acting up get the headers together for a few messages that get through but then show up on the list, and contact support with that info as well as when you downloaded the messages and when you ran your local SpamCop check. They will be able to dig into things in more depth. -Dave |
