CFX tags - some questions

Hello,

In the ASP forum I asked about generating PDFs on the fly... which I'm doing using a cfm tag called cf_pdf. It runs fine, but I have problems with determining text width with proportional fonts, and figuring out the XY coordinates, rather than tables, etc. is really a pain.

I'm interested in buying and installing (if OK'ed by the admins) a tag called CFXPDF Generator from a company called Easel Two Interactive. Website-->http://www.easel2.com

I have a few questions on CFX tags...

- What is the best way to get permission to get the tag installed? I completely agree that the installation is at the discretion of the admins, but what info is needed to do so?
- If I was given the okay, what license do I need to buy? There are 3 types, not sure what HostMySite would require. License page-->http://www.easel2.com/cfxpdf_choose.html
- If the tag is installed, is it only available to me, or anyone else on the CF server?
- Is it preferable to install CFX tags on CFMX 6.1 or 5, (I'm currently on 5)

Thanks in advance!

David

P.S. If anyone has any ideas about another way to get this done (that is, PDF generation, or report generation in general) I'd be interested

Hello David,

You would only need to purchase the Individual License since you would be the only site using it. On a CF 5 server other accounts would have access to the tag, however they would have to know that it is installed on the server to use it. On our CFMX 6.1 we can setup a sandbox where only your website would have access to the CFX tag. We can intall a CFX tag on either server(CF 5 or CFMX 6.1). It usually depends on the CFX tag wether it runs better on CF 5 or CFMX 6.1.

Once you have purchased a license, you can send an email to Support@hostmysite.com or give us a call at , 1-877-215-4678 with a link where we can download the CFX tag from the vendor. We would then review the tag and determine if we can install it on our servers. This process will take no more then a few days.

Let us know if you have any other questions, we are available 24 hours a day seven days a week.

Good deal, thanks for the info! It seems as though the CF 6.1 environment is best for this particular tag...

Can you tell me if others have migrated from 5 to 6.1, whether they need to create a new hosting account, or generally what is involved in migrating a site currently hosted in 5 over to 6.1?

I knew these forums would be agreat, thank you!! Very Happy

It is very easy to migrate From CF5 to CFMX 6.1, just contact us with your domain information and that you are interested in upgrading to CFMX 6.1. We will then send you some questions regarding your website- any DSNs, Custom settings.................
This will help to make the transition the new server as smooth as possible.

I think there are a few minor functionality changes that you should keep in mind when moving from CF 5.0 to CFMX 6.1; one that comes to mind is CFChart (or is it CFGraph?) which is not supported on the newer version of Cold Fusion.

Can one of the CF developers comment on this? Question

Also, regarding the CFX tag, I think we can actually give it a once-over before you actually buy the license, just to give you an idea of whether or not we can support it. I think that would be preferable then making you buy the license without us checking it out at all, then saying you can't use it, don't you? Very Happy

CFGRAPH is not a supported tag on CFMX 6.1.

Thank you, I will do that... is this done as a one time cutover, or is it possible to get a "sandbox" on 6.1, move my code over, make sure that everything runs as expected, or fix whatever needs fixing, and then the cutover is done (DNS, True Business ID, etc) when I give you the "OK"?

Yes that is preferable! Smile

I assume that the best way to do this is to send an email to support, with the url of the CFX tag site, asking if this particular tag can be supported? Or is there another method I should use?

Thank you both!

David,

The best thing to do would be to send an email to support@hostmysite.com with information on the CFX tag.

Once You are ready to move to a CFMX 6.1 server you can send an email to support as well. We would move the files over and contact you with a new IP address to be sure everything is working properly. Once your site is working properly on the new server we would point your domain name to the new IP address.

I hope that answers your question, and let use know if you have any other questions or concerns. Thanks
