I don't know much about setting up internal search capabilities for a website (nothing really) but does HMS offer this service? As I understand it, if it was done client-side (me), then the website visitor has to download the entire file before anything can be searched. On the other hand, for server-side searches (HMS for example), then only what the visitor requests is downloaded to their computer.

While I can get the javascript (free) to set-up client-side searches, I don't know how big the file would be (how long to download). My website has about 90 pages. Would configuring a search data base for an 90 page website be too big or not?

Have you thought about including a Google search of your site?

It's probably the easist way to get what you want, if you don't mind the Google branding on your site. See: http://www.google.com/searchcode.html. I expect Yahoo and MSN Search offer similar bits of HTML you can add to your site.

If this doesn't work, you could write ASP, ASP.NET, or ColdFusion code to search your site server-side. If HostMySite can set up an Index in MS Index Server for you, that would probably make things a bit easier, but I think you're still going to have a decent bit of coding to do.

I would say that trying to build a client-side search of your website is a bad idea. This is really the sort of thing that should be done server-side.

Well, I'm wanting an internal search program... and by 'internal' I mean searching just my site, not the Internet. Google won't just search my site will it? Further, I don't know how involved setting up something like that would be. I suppose the data base would be only as large as you wanted it to be (assuming one needs to add a 'data base'). I might set up a Google search facility later (for the Internet) but for now, I looking into just internal search capabilities.

As I said tho, if the data base is too big, it might be better to function server-side and not be client based (my website). Does HMS do this?

Cool... Cool Yeah, I see how House of Fusion does it, a visitor can designate either an internal search or the web. I've never noticed that before anywhere else (that's normal for me, alot of things I miss... except hearing the dinner bell). Okay great... off to Google I go then. Muchos Gracias!!
