Ok so I have two clients each with their own VPS. One has a Base VPS ( 256 Meg ) and the other has a .NET VPS ( 512 Meg ). All this time I have been under the impression that my only options are the 256, 512, and 1024 Meg VPS plans for windows. The way the tech support has always described the VPS's to me is that they are locked, and not flexible. Meaning 1 box is divided up into 256 Meg VPS units, another box is broken up into 512 meg VPS units, and another box is broken down into 1 Gig VPS units. I bet you all reading this are going " yeah thats right and it sucks!!! " If you need to upgrade you are stuck with a full migration from one box to another. Well guess what..... They offer ram upgrades as a side dish ( but they just don't advertise it ). meaning if you need more ram, they will allocate more ram an then charge you an extra $15 / month for each 256 Megs. If you are in a situation like me an you keep crashing your VPS because you go over you allocated memory, just call in and ask for more memory. There is no need to upgrade from one box to another. I wish I had known this a long time ago. Hope this helps others who are looking to get more out of their VPS for the least amount of $$$ Possible

15$ a month => RIP OFF. 256MB of ram is worth less than 25$.

As nathacof mentions in another thread the memory/disk space upgrades are no longer offered on VPS plans:

Correct,
We haven't offered memory upgrades on our vps accounts for some time now. It does trouble me that you state to call in and ask for more memory, when we should not be doing this at all. Adding more memory in a node that is already setup is simply asking for issues to occur |

I learned later that this was no longer available. I have since upgraded to a 1GB windows VPS. Migration from one VPS to the next has not been smooth though. What really stinks is I am paying 140 / month for a 1GB VPS yet colocation only costs about $120 / month. I might start colocating just to save a little money soon.

My thoughts exactly. That's why we are going to go with collocation after the first of the year. Why pay $180/month when you can pay $120? No brainer |

I can also add that the servers we use as testing servers, which are older servers that used to be in production, are far more stable than our CF VPS. Another reason we are going colo

I've never had to deal with colocation backups in the past, but it may be possible for us to manage backups. But don't take my word for it!
Your best bet would be to request a quote from our sales reps and discuss your concerns with them directly. http://www.hostmysite.com/dedicated |
