How not to make fun of a programming language

If you have seen some previous topics, you will know that I really don't like Coldfusion. Although I think that Rails is far superior to Coldfusion, I would like to highlight how NOT to make fun of a programming language. Often, Programming language arguments become catfights with no arguments behind them. Here is an amusing example:

I was at a "party" a few months ago where there happened to be more nerds than normals and we all took turns belittling each others favorite languages ... it was kinda weird to be honest.

I can definitely imagine that..... I have never personally gotten into a nerdy argument (I have gotten into more abstract arguments) on programming languages, but I definitely know what it's like to get into a nerdy argument... for example... arguing about the properties of Germanium. Nerdy arguments sometimes go too far, as shown in this video. I would have never called CF "emo".

I think you're discussion is a little too old for me... But when I first looked at COBOL I thought it looked like Applescript. But that's another story. You both are probably much older than me.

Alan, are those numbers line numbers? Because if so, that language must be quite fun. Is that LISP or COBOL?

Not to get ON topic but... Rails is a framework, not a language. Those videos compare apples to oranges for the most part. Clever? yes. Honest? not really.

From a sales/support perspective, I've been hearing about Rails being "the next big thing" for some time now, but the requests haven't really been flowing in for it. I only know of a few dedicated servers we have running rails - in comparison we have MANY running CF, .NET, php, et al.
