Can anyone recommend any good software for Monitoring server status for a Windows VPS?

I want to be alerted via email when the server is having problems. (i.e. ColdFusion or MSSQL server stop responding)

HostMySite.com has used IPmonitor (from IpSwitch) and we're currently reviewing SevOne for internal use as well.

Personally, I use Swedish-Based Pingdom for External server monitoring. It's very accurate, easy to use, and support is fast. Not to mention it's only 10 bucks a month. It also supports SMS notification. Out of all the services i've tried, this one is the best. I personally really like their API support, so you can integrate the uptime data into apps, and call it pragmatically. This is where I got the 99.999619% statistic for my forum post.

And no, unfortunately I don't get a referral credit Very Happy .

You might also want to consider an internally based solution like Nagios as well.

Oh, yeah, we've used Nagios in the past as well. Sorry that's linux-based and linux isn't my forte' so I forgot about it.

Nagios runs fine on BSD and some other unix variants.

The hardware node that the VPS is on would be monitored, so they can make sure that it's up.

This is because, since you have full control of the VPS, you might be restarting/rebooting the VPS at any given time and that could cause false alerts to come up for them if they were monitoring specifics on each VPS.

For the most part, no. For the simple reason that we don't know what you're doing with your server. You could be doing work on your site. You could be doing upgrades. Heck, you could be turning ColdFusion off.

However, if you're continually having ColdFusion problems, we can monitor the service for you and fix/let you know (depending on what course of action you want done). But we generally keep that for people who are having problems with the service.

Well,

I tried a few monitors, including IPMonitor, but I couldn't get them to monitor the VPS. I installed them on my Desktop PC but couldn't get it to monitor the VPS. Is remote monitoring possible? I coulnd't find any documentation regarding remote monitoring.

Is there any software that will allow remote monitoring?

What happened to the monitors you setup? What did their vendors say? I'm sure someone has run into this before, so monitoring VPS accounts shouldn't be impossible...
you could try this
