Introducing...
HostMyEmail.com, the very first HostMySite.com Premium email server! Put on the rack today, it will server the same purpose as our Premium web servers, that is, to give our clients a little more BANG for a little more BUCK. The price of a Premium Mailserver will be $25 per month, and it will be billed as an add-on in the same fashion as our list server plans. Now, I know you're asking, what makes it so special? How is it different from our normal Imail servers? 1. Increased Default Spam Filtering We've drasticly improved upon the default filtering setup on our shared mailservers. New features include: a. Statistical Filtering - examines each word in an email message and evaluates how often the word appears in spam and non-spam email. The entire message is then evaluated based on all of the word values to determine whether it is likely to be spam. b. Phrase Filtering - searches for common spam phrases within the body of email messages. If a message contains one or more of the phrases in our phrase database (which is updated regularly), it is identified as potential spam. c. HTML Filtering - searches HTML emails for Deceptive URLs, Deceptive Text, and Image Tags to determine if the message is likely to be spam or not. 2. Greater Stability This server will hold only 1/4 the number of clients as a normal shared mailserver, which will make it inherently more stable. In addition, the maximum filesize of any user account will be 50 megs, which will aid those who feel too restricted by the space limitations on our shared mailservers. (note: this is in reference to an upcoming change in our space policy which will only allow 25 megs of online storage for any single email account. This will go into effect within the next few months) 3. Zero Tolerance Spam & Bulk Email Policy To insure that the Premium Mailserver will never be blacklisted or have problem delivering email to valid recipients, we are instituting a zero tolerance policy on outgoing spam. If it is discovered that a client is sending unsolicited bulk mail from either the Premium Mailserver or advertising a domain name that is using our Premium Mailserver, that domain will be immediately shifted to another mailserver on a normal plan, and lose all the benifits of the Premium Mailserver. What is to be considered Spam is as always at the sole discretion of HostMySite.com. Please let me know if you are interested in moving your email to the Premium Plan, or if you'd like futher information on the subject, by posting here. |

WOW... we heard that this was in the works. What a great product. This will definitely help out our customers who rely on email from day to day for business needs and at a VERY affordable price.
And from experience, the statistical filtering is a VERY nice anti-spam tool. |

As a special bargain for those of you reading the DevForums, I've been cleared to offer a discounted rate for rest of May - instead of $25 per month, this service will only cost $10 per month. If you're interested, post here with your domain name and I'll get you started, or send an email to support@hostmysite.com and reference this article.
Thanks again for using HostMySite! |

Hi I think a premium mail account is a great idea. But I think that what you're offering is lacking in any "sizzle". Would it be too difficult to maybe bump the account space to 100megs? Now most people are not going to use 100megs any more than they'll use the 250 mail accounts, but knowing it's available would be the first thing that would make me want to upgrade my email account.
Spam filtering, Stability and Zero tolerance to spam should be a given with any email system. Now SPACE! That's always a premium. And offering 50megs instead of the downgraded 25 is really like extortion. Saying "You currently have 50megs, but we're going to drop you to 25 if you don't pay up." is really kind of anti-climactic to any new "premium" offering. Thanks for listening! -Ken |

It's funny you should mention that - the original post I made was our beta test. Since it's gone live, the following changes have been made:
1. Space is now 100 megs instead of 50 (you read our minds) 2. IMAP is supported 3. HTTPS will be supported (soon), which means you can view your email through a secure webpage. Sofar the only portion of the Premium Mailserver that we aren't 100% happy with is the spam filtering. Premium offers more options, but it's still up to the client to perform a certain amount of 'trial and error' with figuring out which filters work and which don't. Plus the filters themselves are somewhat difficult to master from a formatting point of view. To resolve this, we're implementing a new system that will offer spam filtering at the click of a button; i.e. there's no extensive filters to setup (unless you really want to block those messages from your mother-in-law). While this system isn't in place yet, I expect it within the next month or so. |

Allright!
Now that's premium! Well then, I guess the big question is does the offer you made in your last post still apply? |

Actually I had forgotten about that as well - one more change that we made was we lowered the price PERMANENTLY to only $10 per month. So I guess now you can really say:

Thanks Jamie, If I switch to a premium email account will I have to do anything in the admin section of the email app to set up my accounts I've already set up or will all their current settings migrate over?
When you switch to https will it be required or will it be optional? I'm not too worried about security on my mail and https just slows things down too much. |

I'm a new customer with 2 domain (Ultra Dev) accounts, and I've subscribed to the premium e-mail service for one of my domains after reading this thread. While I can access my e-mail accounts (the ones on the premium service) with IMAP, it looks like my e-mail space is still at 50 MB per account, not the 100MB mentioned here. Also, I don't see anything different for filtering than I do in my non-premium e-mail domain. Both just seem to have the standard IMail filtering. Am I missing something?
One more question... is there any virus checking of attachments for the regular or premium e-mail? Stuff like Norton doesn't seem to check incoming IMAP mail on client PC's. |

cpnet - We actually just corrected a 50MB vs. 100MB issue today for a premium customer. Was that you? If not, let us know the domain and it should be pretty easy to take care of
In terms of virus checking, my understanding is no. With the way IMail works I don't believe there's any good way of doing it |

Jamie.....thanks again for helping me get setup with the Premium Emal Server for one of my accounts.
When I called Support and they said they didn't know anything about it (mainly IMAP, which they said HMS didn't support).....I began to scratch my head......Once you told me what to tell them, all was well. Thanks again. MB |

Sorry about that - the IMAP support isn't widely known or asked for - I'm working on getting more information about our services spread out to the techs however with SmarterMail looming over my head (as well as AOL being a pain in the @$$) it's been difficult to keep up with everything. Expect the Premium Mail services to get more 'air time' in the first quarter of next year.
