Hello,

My name is Joshua Tobiansky and I am one of the Call center Managers for HostMySite.com.

Today, we are continuing to experience a distributed denial of service attack against our DNS servers. This has affected the performance of our DNS server cluster, in turn creating latency on our network. We have been working to mitigate the effects of this event since it began yesterday just before 11 am EDT . Due to the nature of the attack, we are unable to outright block the source of the traffic, because the origins of the requests are being spoofed. We are in contact with Top Layer, our Intrusion Detection System vendor, and with Cisco, to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

At this point, we have managed to add additional nodes to our DNS cluster to improve the processing power of our DNS servers. We have also modified our load balancing configurations and intrusion detection system settings to better handle the denial of service attack that we have been experiencing for the bulk of the day. These changes have drastically improved the resolution of domain names on our network. We are continuing to monitor the situation, make changes as needed, and staying in constant contact with our load balancer and intrusion detection vendors to ensure the attack continues to be mitigated. If you have any questions or additional issues, please let us know. We thank you for your support while we continue to work through this situation.
