Is it possible to access my hostmysite database from a different domain, not hosted by hostmysite?
Thanks, Toonie.T |

What kind of database are you trying to access? An MS Access, SQL Server? MySQL?
You can access any of them from any location, from any computer. Let me know which one you want to access and I'll give you instructions |

MySQL.
I need to access it from a different website (different domain), not just a different computer. What I'm trying to do is use my phpbb2 forum information on a different website, however when I use the same configuration file, it cannot login to cannon.safesecureweb.com (and i have verified the database name/username/password are correct) Hope that helps, Artoonie |

To the best of my knowledge, unless to database server is on the same network as the server trying to connect, you can not connect for security purposes. Even if you were able to connect, your application would suffer a severe performace decrease. But I may be wrong. I would ask support if you can connect from an external network.

Alright, thank-you a lot! I've been told that it was a security risk, just wanted to check if it was allowed at hostmysite.

You can connect to it from anywhere (assuming it's on one of our shared servers)
But he's right about the performance. It's probably not going to be what you're looking for. |

Yuk, I am getting errors connecting, but it takes a long time to get the error. Way too long to be convenient.
Guess it's not worth the hassle solving the coding problems if the performance will be that slow. Thanks! HostMySite is amazing beyond belief. &toon; |
