Verizon is installing Fios in my development, and want to know from those of you that use it (if any) your thoughts on the service. Verizon is supposed to be 100% fiber from your house to their station. And unlike DSL distance doesn't matter (so they say)
I currently have Comcast with speeds of 11mb down and 768kbs Up This Fios is supposed to give you 30mbps Down and 5mbps up. I REALLY need to upload. I'm satisfied with my download, but Comcast will not give you higher than 768kbps I have been hosting a websever with comcast and they have never restricted or said anything. So has anyone used or even heard of Fios? Here's the link to their site |

I've heard of it. It's not available in my area
I had a server setup at my house and one point (comcast), but after about a month they blocked inbound port 80 |

Not in all of Illinois, but I really need it. I have Comcast, and they don't deliver what they said in my area (Chicago). Comcast sucks! They downed my phone line when repairing my cable.

dbodner... check out http://no-ip.com you can manage your own domain name and seamlessly remap port 80 to get around your problem.

There's a few things I could have done, but it wasn't really necessary. I was actually only using it to put the CF developers edition on a computer I had lying around, and test some code. My point was more to Jason, as he said comcast hadn't blocked his server yet. I was just letting him know that they might.

I've been running a server since I would say June of 2005, and my IP has only changed 3 times in 2 years. (And I don't even pay for static IP). I use the server for remote development heavily. So I'm really pulling and pushing a lot of traffic to and from without comcast giving me a problem. (Of course I probably Jinxed myself now.) It must just be the way the different markets are run. |

I'm using FIOS from Verizon, and it has been pretty much trouble free.
I'm not using the speed that you are writing about - that's on the pricey side for my needs. They do have less expensive options that are advertised as still being faster than Comcast's 11mb down and 768kbs Up. |

Bill, Are you running any type of server on the connection? |

Hi Jason,
I thought you might ask that based upon your followup post. I'm hosted on hostmysite rather than on my own server at home, so I don't have experience with the use of Verizon's service in conjunction with running a server through here. |

Thanks Bill
I don't use the server for primary hosting. Just as a testing server, but I do remote development for testing. |

Jason,
Thank for mentioning @ FIOS. I never had heard of it before. I have looked on it at verizon site and 2 mbps upload would be nice for my VRS. I found out that it is not available in my area.. dbodner.. I do not know that you love CF.. |

Shaji, Ya know..I don't think it's something that is readily available like cable internet. Verizon has been in my development for 2 weeks doing "trechless diging" running fiber obtics underground then directly into everyones house. So I think it's a by area deal. My Buddy who lives a mile away is also getting it installed in their development. I will definitely give FIOS a shot when they are all finished installing. |

FiOS is amazing. I had it at my last residence.... My new apartment doesn't have it yet so I'm kinda bummed out. Definitely worth the investment!!!
