RDS is not enabled on any of our shared servers, as it is a really huge large security risk.

You can create/edit DSN entries, by our control panel at controlpanel.safesecureweb.com.
QUESTION on Setup Instructions Error Message

I'm going through my Dreamweaver Tutorial, Developing a Web Application and it tells me to insert a Recordset on my .cfm document. I get the following error message:

Setup Instructions

  • Smile1. Create a site for this file.
  • Smile2. Choose a document type.
  • Smile3. Set up the site's testing server.
  • X 4. Specify the RDS login information for the Coldfusion server.
  • X 5. Create a ColdFusion data source.

I know HostMySite doesn't support RDS (safety risk), so why is it asking this?
When I click on RDS login it displays an error saying:

Macromedia Dreamweaver
Possible reasons:
  • 1. The URL specified for this site's testing server may be incorrect: http://idahofineliving.com/
  • 2. The testing server may be incorreclty configured (for example, ColdFusion may not be running).

Thanks thanks thanks for any help.

You won't be able to develop this way in Dreamweaver while using HMS servers. You'll either have to do without it, or install the developers edition of coldfusion. If you install the developers edition, you can enable RDS and then use dreamweaver. But remember, then you'll also have to install a DB server if you are doing that type of development.

Hello,

I have used Dreamweaver to build my site. I'd consider it a huge favor if someone would visit it and give me feedback on how it looks. I am not an IT person so any help would be deeply appreciated. www.michigan-fundraising.com.

Thank in advance,

I'm trying to configure Dreamweaver CS3 to use a RDS connection to my VPS. Each time I do I get and error stating that Dreamweaver cannot resolve the URL. Anyone else have any advice?

Check your firewall settings on your VPS. I'm not sure what port RDS uses, but make sure to open it up to your IP. Although it's really not a good idea to have RDS enabled in a production environment.

I should add that you do have RDS enabled and an RDS password in the Coldfusion Administrator correct?

Of course the RDS from Coldfusioin should not be used in a production enviroment but I have a second VPS I want to use as a test server so I do not have to physically support the test servers locally.

I have enabled RDS of the actual codlfusion server but I am going to check the firewall and see if it is locking me out at all.
