Our domain has had quite a few of these as well. At this point we're at nearly 4-500 a day of this type. What I have done is set up an extensive list of custom filters for words and such that catches most of it. But where I've had the most success is just redirecting any email with a pic attachment (jpeg jpg gif tif etc.) to a special email account. This does have some overhead though, and many people send HTML enabled emails and a lot of these get filtered by this. So I pull down this junk about once ever 5 minutes and when I have a free minutes I delete it and do a ocne over for anything legit. I've compensated for a lot of it by whitelisting clients who use this. Like I said it's a good bit of overhead, and it's basically worthless if your a home user, but for my company I manage to keep a further 2-300 spam a day out of their inbox.
I also contacted hostmysite tech support via email to see if they had any recommendations, and from what I was told there some new stuff they are getting ready to do which will likely help out with this. Hope it works for you Tyras |

Hi Tyras.
Thank you for your reply. But the issue here is, the spam uses common words in subject and also, ther is no much texts in the body. Even am not able to block GIF, as my cleint use GIF files a lot. There are around 200 Email accounts for this cleint, so re-directing the mails with GIF also won't work. Does anyone have some idea how to block these? Regards, |

There's a service that our company utilizes called Postini (http://www.postini.com) which catches a good portion of all garbage (spam, viruses, etc). I'm not exactly sure how much it costs, but I'm sure we're paying less than $1 per account. It's pretty effective and definitely worth looking into.

Better late than never on this posting, I suppose.
1. The problem with .gif files embedding causing messages to be bounced has been resolved (a few weeks ago). The problem happened when our Barracuda servers received an update from barracuda that weighted those emails too heavily. 2. HMS will begin offering a postini add-on for our clients shortly - look for it in the next 30 to 60 days. |
