Most of the problems experienced with OE on a Mac can be resolved by updating to the latest version, 5.0.6. (as of 4/6/04)

To find the version you're using, start the email application and go to the “Apple” menu (Looks like an apple in the upper left corner of the screen) and pick “About"

If you're on Outlook Express version 5.0.2, you will need to upgrade to Outlook Express 5.0.6. Outlook Express 5.0.2 will not work properly because the application has a bug that does not allow SMTP to properly authenticate.

To get the latest version, visit Download.com, or Mactopia.com, or Macupdate.com. Once the upgrade is done, you should be able to set up the email accounts just like a Windows Outlook version.

Just to clarify, this tip with Outlook Express applies only to "Classic" Mac operating systems (9.2 or earlier). Computers running OSX do not experience this issue.
