Is it just me, or does anyone find it weird/inconvenient that SmarterMail requires manual ceation of the Sent Items folder? Most mail apps do this automatically the first time you send a message.
Ot is there a global setting for this that I am overlooking? |

The sent item folder is create automatically the first time you send an email, there is no need to create the folder manually.

Well, I have several users asking me where the Sent Items folder is. I tested for myself and it does not get created automatically.
Straight form SmarterMail help docs...
That indicates to me that it requires manual creation. |

Odd...
I created a new user, logged in made sure the setting to save to sent folder was enabled, composed and sent a new message in the web mail and the folder was automatically created and the message was saved. I would assume that if you had that option enabled and didn't create the folder first, your message would have failed to send? Was that the case? |

There you go... you had to take an extra step to set it up. An very basic extra step on the user side for something as simple as having a Sent Items folder is a design flaw. I don't mean that in a harsh way. I think SmarterMail is quite possibly the best webmail system I've ever used — next to Gmail. But, this is the sort of detail that makes customers call and gripe.
Nope, the message was sent with no troubles. Just don't have any record of it in SmarterMail. The Deleted Items folder is created automatically the first time I delete a message with no extra actions on my part. Why wouldn't the Sent Items folder behave the same way? |

I don't know why SmarterMail created it like that, but I would guess it probably has something to do with space. Not all users may want their sent items taking up their quota. For example, imagine if you sent a lot of attachments during the course of the day, it could eat up your 1 GB quota quickly.
I think it should probably be enabled by default, with the option of turning it off, but I think i understand the reason it's an option. |

Yeah, that makes sense. I do have plenty of customers who let their mailboxes go over quota.
I do think it should at least be a more obvious option. Thanks for the feedback. |
