Hello -

New to the forum, so I decided to post in this general category.
I have a couple of websites and I am considering getting a dedicated
server for hosting.

After doing some research I am wondering what the real benefits
of having unique IP addresses vs. shared IP addresses are??

and secondly - if I do go with a dedicated server, what are my best
methods for backing up my data?

Thanks

John

OKay - so I found the answers on my own and decided to post them
in case any one else has the same question...

Dedicated Server means

More control
Faster response with high traffic loads
Easier setups (for encryption, etc)

Now... can anyone steer me to a reliable vendor for
a fire proof safe??

Does anyone here use a fire proof safe for their
computer data backup?

Thanks

You back up your data? j/k

I personally put my backup media in a safety deposit box at a nearby bank for some pretty obvious reasons... including the fireproof part.

I use a safe deposit box as well. Thank goodness for mini-discs!

I think I am going to buy a fireproof data safe for my
backup.

I really like the idea of having everything at my office
plus I can store other important documents in it too.

I've found several reputable dealers online that offer
more than just the "walmart brands"

http://www.klsecurity.com/

Has anyone ever had any experiences actually going
through a fire disaster before and having to recover
their backup data?

No I haven't and that's why I chose the "safer" option over the convenient one. Having the lockbox also prevents theft of such items (or the drawer/cabinet/safe itself which is just as bad).
