I've searched numerous forums, and no real answer...

Everytime i try to update my stylesheet, I can't save it. I get a message saying there is a sharing violation when trying to access the file.

I found suggestions saying it was my AV software and others like that.

So anyways, anyone else having this problem? Any ideas how to fix this without shutting everything down and restarting?

Thanks for the help

Can you provide more info? Operating system, Editor, Etc?

If you are using Dreamweaver, and trying to edit a file outside of Dreamweaver it will sometimes cause that message because it has a lock on the file. Closing Dreamweaver and trying to save the file usually helps.

You can also check your permissions on the file/directory to be sure there are write permissions.

I have windows XP and have Coldfusion Developers Edition. I have DW 8 as well as CS3 installed.

When i edit my css file in DW (either version) and try to save it to view it on my local server, i get the sharing violation error. This only happens with the css files, any other file (html, cf) i dont get a sharing violation error.

It seems as if something has it locked, but i dont know what. If i wait a long while (hr or so) i can save it, but as soon as i make a change and try to save it again, same error.

Was just browsing through the adobe forums, and many are getting the same error, but no one knows why or how to fix it.

That is indeed strange. I to get those sharing violation errors, but for all files not just one specific type. Is your CSS files in it's own folder? If so, move them out and try it again. Maybe it is a folder permission thing.

Definitely sounds strange though.. Sorry I can't be of more help

I had the problem before with all files, but that went away(magically haha)

I have my css sheets in a folder, but ive been using the spry widgets and they have their css in a different folder. Either way, i cant edit any css documents.

Frustrating. No where on adobe do they address this issue.

Ahh well, thanks anyways for the help.

Update...

going into CFAdmin and clearing template cache a few times and then submitting changes a few times will fix it. Though i have to do that every time i modify the css sheet.

You'd think Adobe would have seen/fixed this

I found that if you just save the file to your desktop, do not update links, and then drag and drop it into the folder it was originally saved in, it works.

I've been scrubbing the web as the problem has suddenly reappeared with a vengeance. It's locking out css files and graphic files, too, when I try to save them. GRRRRR! Apparently there's no hotfix for the issue. I have to clear the template cache a couple times in CFAdmin, or with the graphic file problem, stop the CF Server. Has anyone heard of any new ideas on how to fix the problem? I couldn't find where Adobe addresses this issue on their site. Is anyone else going nutzzzzz?

Hi guys,

I've had the same issue tonight with the same sharing violation warning showing with HTML and XML files in Dreamweaver. Nothing seemed to work in order to get it working again.

However, at some point I noticed my local host (WAMP) wasn't running (since I wasn't needing the local server for my work) and after starting it the sharing violation warning has stopped and everything has returned to normal.

Can't explain why but it's just another suggestion to throw into the mix for others with similar troubles.

Hello guys,

this problem has often occurred to me, and I was always wondering what It was, or why it was happening.
I had a clue about something when I noticed That it Just happened when I had my FTP client opened in the same directory of the file I was editing in dreamweaver. So I guess that sometimes other programs like FTP client lock the file, not dreamweaver itself.

Hope I have helped.

Wink
