With the success of our Ruby on Rails beta program we here at HMS have been thinking to ourselves, "Hey, wouldn't it be great to support lots of new stuffs?" The problem is when we start having conversations with ourselves, the people around us start looking at us weird. So we wanted to put it to the people who know best what we should support, our customers.
So here it is, your chance to put in your suggestions directly. We want to know what new technologies our community would like us to support. I'm posting this in the Programming forum since I expect this will mostly cover new language support like Ruby was, but please feel free to make any suggestions whatsoever - from server architectures to support practices. Every suggestion will be considered and in the near future we expect to put live a page on our site where we list the programs that we have in-progress as well as links to any and all new Beta programs we are running. So please, talk amongst yourselves, and let us know what we should be looking into for our next new technologies. |

A couple of things:
1). Oracle.... Yes....you heard me right..... Oracle has released a free version... Oracle Database XE.... I would love to run Oracle.... And even if you have to buy the enterprise version, it is still the same price as SQl Server, (and better) 2). Flex... Flex's release date is rumored to be in 4 days- on june 28.... the pricing model is pretty good... all I remember is 499 for the dev ide.... 3). CF Wheels - when I heard that I couldn't have CF and Ruby, I was kid of annoyed, because I wanted a MVC framework, but for those CF users jealous of rails there's cfwheels.org... I think it requires something called something for updates... Thanks |

Another one:
Google Analytics/Urchin analytics instead of SmarterStats... HMS is already using it.... at least for their own website....
(Sorry to cause trouble......) NOW, IS THERE ANY REASON I'M THE ONLY ONE POSTING? |

Not sure if this applys, but I have been looking at a virtual office application that I would like to have running on the server. Unfortunetly it's one of those that has to be installed using a exe file so it's not something your customers can do on there own. Here's a link to the application so you can see what I am looking for in a virtual office:

I'd love to have access to the Zend Framework from my Linux shared hosting account. And of course, the latest PHP 5.2.

Unfortunately you'll have to wait for Red Hat to release the the PHP 5.2.5 rpm. Since this is an Enterprise OS you'll never really see the latest and greatest technologies, rather RHEL tends to stick with what is stable and reliable (I think PHP 5.2.5 has been great in my experience, but when you have as many customers as Red Hat you're a bit more cautious). Also in regards to Zend Framework it was at one point offered on our Linux ColdFusion servers, however since we have stopped providing that plan type it is no longer available to new customers. But as far as I know it's a matter of uploading the 'library/' folder to your site, then asking us to adjust your include path. So just shoot an email to support if you'd like to try and get it setup. |
