This is good news! Can't wait to see what they come up with...

Ya know - if you think back to the early days of programming the focus was on writing smaller, faster more efficient and elegant code because resources were so limited. Now it seems to be going the other way and the object is to make your product bigger better with more bells and whistles than the other guy...I kinda hope that the FireFox guys don't fall into that trap as others have...

Agreed. Leave the features to be modular add-ons for those who want them... don't just force them upon us by making them a default part of the program. I even remember when webpages were about content... now it's about who can make the slowest loading crappy flash thing that does next to nothing but look good. I'm not saying that these things don't have their place, but to comprise a whole site? like LiquidGeneration.com? That just seems retarded IMO at least.

I must admit - the company that I used to work for has a site like that and I built it...but that's what they wanted and that's what they got - the site is BEAUTIFUL, but it does load awfully slow...From the design end I'm proud of it - from the architecture side of it - I could have done it a LOT better had I stayed there and done a revision 2...You learn so much while you are making sites like this, but in the same breth you have to get something out the door so you have to bite the bullet sometimes and get it shipped.

LOL I've been there before and commented "jeez this takes forever to load... even on broadband"... Yeah, I've made some not-so-great stuff as well, but it's all since been alleviated. Getting extensively into CSS has been my most recent savior... I needed to get more into design and not just dev anyway Wink

I have found though that design is tough for me - I don't have a real eye for things like real artists do...I LOVE CSS though - so I can certainly agree with you there...I'm actually going the other way and trying to get deeper into the development end of things...more into the code than the design...leave that to the artists...

im kinda in both
but now that im starting to dig into flash more and more, i really need the designers part! and luckily with using cfm as the back end at least the coding part gets simple.

josh, if u get a chance u should pick up this book
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0735713820/qid%3D1105840961/sr%3D11-1/ref%3Dsr%5F11%5F1/104-0406134-6979107
they just sent me a copy to do a review on it and its really good. Completely for ppl like u & me, coders not designers
plus all the examples are in coldfusion, .net & java

I still haven't found a really good base to go with Flash yet... Flash is just a pretty front end. Don't get me wrong, in some places (like your video snippets and stuff) I'd actually like to delve into parts of it... but for a majority of what I do... RichText boxes, checkboxes, and other input controls, Flash just doesn't seem to be anything but a visual enhancement.

see thats were ur wrong though josh, flash is sooooooo useful anymore, and more powerful than u could imagine!!
heres a small example

http://www.macromedia.com/devnet/flex/example_apps.html#
scroll down to the flex store and run it
be sure to try out all the features, drag and drop items and such
thats a perfect example of how things will be going, plus if u build that in flex, that store example requires about 70 lines of code...total, that includes the cfc without even opening the flash ide

or even forms for submission with validating and such, so much easier in flash and looks better.

wait till u see the real estate app im making in flash, u'll crap yer pants!
