Will there be an option to use SmarterMail Sync with the new version? I found it on the smarter tools website - http://www.smartertools.com/Products/SmarterMailSync/Overview.aspx. It could possibly solve the problem of not being able to add multiple contacts, since a user could sync their contacts!
Not being able to add multiple contacts into the smarter mail interface is the biggest complaint that I hear, so it would be nice if this solved it. Thanks. |

So far we have no plans to add this as it's an end-user installation from what I understand, but once we get upgraded to v3.x that may change.
As for multiple contacts, they can actually be added via the HMS Control Panel. Please let me know if you need anything further, and have a nice day! |

Isn't it multiple users that you can add in the control panel? What about when someone has their email account set up and they want to add their contacts? In the smartermail interface, they can only do this one at a time.
The smartermail sync program is a desktop application but it also needs a separate liscense key for people to be able to use it. The liscense key should be turned on by the domain administrator - according to Smarter Tools. If that can be done with the root account, this would be fine. When do you think you will be upgrading to the new version of Smarter Mail? |

*Do not use the "Add to Outlook" from smartermail 4. Download and install the exe file from the webmail (for 2003 and above tool) to setup the sync. Uninstall/Delete any if you created them!
Also for all Junk-email folders (on outlook) @ top menu such as file, edit, view. Click "read > viewing pane > OFF (avoid viruses/malware) Follow these helpful tips: ____________________________________________________________ First Login to Webmail, Click on Settings > My Shared Resources > Add Share Create ONE AT A TIME: (My Contacts, My Calendar, My Tasks, My Notes) 1. CLICK Items to Share, click user, type just your user ("user" @domain) 2. Select Full Control, Click Save 3. You have to “share” each folder you wish to IMAP/Sync with Outlook (see below) *repeat this until you have all of these. _______________________________________________________________ Configuring Outlook 2007 IMAP (INSTEAD OF POP3) TO SYNC FOLDERS 1. Launch Outlook 2007 2. Click Tools 3. Select Account Settings 4. On the E-mail tab, click New 5. Select Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP 6. Click Next 7. Check the box next to Manually configure server settings or additional server types 8. Click Next 9. Select Internet Email 10. Click Next 11. In the User Information section, enter Your Name and Email Address 12. In the Server Information section , enter the following: a. Account Type: IMAP b. Incoming mail server: mail.yourdomain.com c. Outgoing mail server (SMTP): mail.yourdomain.com *Note (sometimes you have to use your provider such as smtp.bellsouth.net and the may/or may not require secure authentication) 13. In the Logon Information section, enter the following: a. User Name: ex: user ("user" @domain) b. Password: (your account password) 14. Click More Settings… 15. On the Outgoing Server tab, check box next to My outgoing server requires authentication. 16. Select Use same setting as my incoming mail server 17. Click OK 18. Click Next 19. Click Finish 20. IMAP should sync your folders with the webmail ________________________________________________________ IMAP Problem Solving (Outlook 2007) IMAP Backup/Create: 1. If a particular folder/mailbox is not showing up (outlook 2007 IMAP), create a new folder on webmail, and move the emails from that folder to the new folder. (ex delete sent items and create sent items2 and move the emails there) 2. Then delete the folder from the webmail 3. Right click (on outlook 2007) under all mail items (the account you wish to create folders) and create the folder/box (this will sync automatically) 4. Find the folder that had the emails in it, then move them back. Login to webmail and you will now see the new account. ________________________________________________________ Toolbar not showing I recently had a problem not being able to access my smarter mail bar in outlook 2007 and syncing with the sm4 system. What I did was uninstall the smarter mail tool from windows xp sp2, make sure my com & asp 2.0 services were working, checked my zone alarm (firewall), turned off windows firewall, and backed up my pst files to a new folder on desktop. I reinstalled the 2003+above version of the sync tool. I opened outlook, went to tools, trust center, add-ins to make sure that it was there. Then click ok. *Important I also checked on macro security "warnings for all macros". This will prompt you, but protect you. You may click "no security check..." to remove the prompt, but your security may be vulnerable. I checked Setup a new email address called test, and checked to see if this was in the "all accounts" to send/receive. Next I went into the tools > options > mail setup > send and receive "all account" and disabled my active/current accounts (not "test"). I created a new pst file called test.pst. Yes there is nothing in this. I set this as the default account under tools > account settings > data files. Then closed and reopened outlook. The tool bar was there with my old account settings, but I was able to update the settings for the sync tool, so should you. After doing this, go back to the account settings, click "set as default on your "ex: outlook.pst" file. Restart outlook. Your settings are back for sync, but you have to go remove the test email, and go back to the "all accounts" and enable your account(s). Took me a while to figure this one out, but I got it to work. The problem that I did have was that it says it syncs 1-6, but it does not. The calendar works with the sync, but the other services are not syncing. _______________________________________________________________ No Sync to contacts, I have a workaround (sounds like hacking): *backup your stuff; create a folder on desktop and drag/drop them in a named folder (do this from outlook to desktop. you can drag it back into outlook "ex: every contact") If there is a folder that doesn't sync (ex: contacts), do this: On the smarter Mail toolbar *(in outlook 2007) Click Change on your account, make sure the url IS NOT SECURE "https://" Click next and the system will validate your settings on the right side (outlook) of the two sections there are buttons click on say contacts, click new, name it "calendar2", dropdown the "calendar items" click ok click next sync always for both, click next finish click on the synchronize tool (your account), *you may see a prompt to use the contacts from your main source (of contacts). _______________________________________________________________ You may be able to repeat this procedure for the other types, and then go back and try to use the original folder. (ex: contacts instead of contacts2). After going through the steps and clicking finish, try to sync. You may want to back up the new folders before doing this, just in case. If this works, which it should (and it did for me), you can delete the folders that you created. *NEW - Another Way If that did not work, go to the smartermail tool (in outlook 2007) for the setup. Read Carefully: Uncheck the box that "doesn't work" and setup the proper settings. click next to finish. Restart outlook and it should work. _______________________________________________________________ I've been working on this for a while and was very determined to get this fixed. This was done with 4 account. 3 IMAP + 1POP3 Pop 3 (to download my account and choose to move certain emails to IMAP folders! This procedure will work for multiple accounts. I hope this helps for future users Richard II, |
