HMS Miva Versus Buying Miva

Hi, I'm wondering what the difference between buying Miva Merchant 5...($1000) or just paying the monthly fee here and using it? Do I get basically the same thing?

Im guessing the only real big difference is when I buy it I don't have to pay a monthly fee, and when I use it here I do?

Also, do I need to get some payment processing service? Or does it come with it when i get it?

Any help would be great, thanks

I can't really answer this question completely, becuase I don't know. I don't use Miva. But I do believe when you use Miva through HMS, your monthly fee covers the use of using Miva's payment gateway.

But I will add tht there are many other options available as an ecommerce solution if you know how to code. Such as OSCommerce (php) or CFWebstore (Coldfusion). Both require little to know additional programming. But if you know nothing about programming, Miva is a great way to go. Smile

Thanks alot for your response Jason.

I've never really worked with eCommerce before, but I have quite a bit of programming expierence.

One of the reasons i was sort of leaning towards Miva was because of the Module they have for QuickBooks integration.

My client is pretty obssessed with QuickBooks, and wants everything to be able to work with QuickBooks...which kind of makes it a pain in the ****.

I would have liked to create my own shopping card and everything and just use Google Checkout...but no QuickBooks integration there.

If you know of any good stores that allow lots of flexiblity and QB support, let me know!

Thanks again for responding.

Hello,
Sorry for taking so long to respond to this. The main difference is the support. Details on our Miva hosting are here With HostMySite, you can call up and talk to anyone here about Miva. They may not know everything, but if you have a question the person cannot answer, they know who can. Miva with HMS still requires you to use a Payment Gateway. We did partner up with CardService (now InternetMerchant) to offer discounts on their service to our customers. Whenever you have a Commerce site, you will need a payment gateway. Think of the payment gateway as that grey non-descript box you run your Visa card through when you make a purchase at a store in the Mall or wherever you shop.

Both OS Commerce and CF Webstore do run on our servers as well.

Miva does have Quickbooks integration but the module is very expensive.

Hope that helps!
