I'm trying to install a simple photo gallery called zenphoto (http://www.zenphoto.org) on my site and can't seem to get it to work. I have the gallery running fine on my local AMP setup but keep getting an internal server error even when I've run through all the fixes I can find on the web and within the zenphoto site. I know the gallery works fine for many folks but some hosts like Dreamhost require a special configuration. HMS might as well.

I'm fairly new to this so my first assumption is that I'm doing something wrong.

My question: has anyone successfully installed zenphoto on their HMS site and if so, how did you do it?

My thanks to anyone who might be able to shed light on this problem.

One thing you can do is take a look in your error logs to see more info about the error. Then I would give support a call with that info and we will be able to tell you if it is something you can fix or if it is a server side configuration.

If I had to guess, I would say there is some .htaccess file that is trying to use an Apache directive that is not allowed in the shared environment. But that is just a shot in the dark Smile

You can get to your log files by logging into your linux account with an SSH client like putty, which is a free download. You will see a bunch of directories in there when you get in, the one you want is the "logs" directory. Once in there you can open the log file with nano, which should be available by default.

If you have trouble just give us a ring and we will look into things for you.

Hope that helps!

Thanks very much for the reply, Dave. You're dead on regarding the .htaccess file: I removed it from the installation and it proceeded without any more problems. Great to know about the logs: I'll definitely put that on my checklist for future troubleshooting.

Thanks again!

Glad that helped!

If you notice any functionality in the photo gallery that isn't working or isn't working correctly, it may be a result of removing the .htaccess. One common thing that they are used for mod rewrite, which basically translates a standard URL into something more readable user friendly. So if something does come up just let our support guys know that there was a .htaccess file in there and they will get things sorted for you.

Take care!
