Hello,
This is more of an interest gathering post. To anyone that is good with Adobe Photoshop and here on the forums, I'm going to propose the following:

Photoshop Remixing

There is a great site called Half Project and they used to have these contests between two designers. One would start off with an image, the other would use it's source material and expand upon it while keeping the essence of the image they (respectively) started with. I think it would be great fun to do something like that here. Each person has one day to change what the other wrought. Consider it something along the lines of a pixel Iron Chef. If there are enough people interested (click on the PM button to show interest) I will create some guidelines for PSD size, sharing and what not. We can go from there.

It's something good to get your creative side going in a non-work environment. At the end of each pixel war, the two contestants can discuss what they did and why. It's an exercise in teaching, learning and encouragement. In fact, I will gladly take on the first person (insert smack-talking here) who wants to try this out.

Are you game?

Illustrator plays a big part in the graphic design field, so it should definitely play a part, but to start off it should mostly be Photoshop. Illustrator is powerful, I'm not denying it, but I think for the beginning it should play a supporting role because not as many people are as fluent with Illustrator as Photoshop. Let's see how the first one or two go and we can adjust from there, sound good?

Ok, we have the first match: Darrell versus KiltedMan (me).

We're going to start off with a theme: Youth and technology.

I have an image which I am going to post on Monday.

Here are some ground rules for general conduct:

-Your photoshop files must be available to your opponent, who will make a copy and use that.
-You can add and detract from the image (obviously)
-You have 24 hours from the time your opponent's image is submitted to have your image up.
-Play nicely.

Think of this as the times old jazz masters would meet and play, there was always respect and playing on a theme, but not cutting for blood. It's about challenging each other and not making something better than the beginning.

Ah yes, I forgot to mention:

At the end, each person in the week's contest are going to discuss what they did and why. It provides a perfect opportunity for people to look and learn too Smile

Now this is what I'm talking about. I'm in. However, it looks like it's been FOREVER since anyone added to the thread. Change of subject matter then? What's the deal?

Hey gang... everyone looking for a reply on this... well... hmm, ain't going to happen. Why? Well, I was out Friday - Monday getting married. I return to work Tuesday to see this. I spoke with Duncan already... he didn't know any better. Also, I feel we shouldn't be working with a 'pre-designed' image so much as a random photo, or ad... like at photoshopcontest.com I feel that is when you can show some REAL creativity. Anyone can take a pre-designed peice and make it more designed... it's taking a random photo, and giving it what you ant the final them to be, where the real challenge and fun could and does lie.
