Has anyone succeeded in setting up transparent encryption with SQL Server 2008 on a shared hosting account?

I'm speaking of a process like described at http://www.mssqltips.com/tip.asp?tip=1514

I'm honestly not even sure if it's possible and don't want to spend a lot of time trying to make it work if it's not.

Unfortunately that feature is not available on the shared database servers. This is because of the performance overhead the constant encryption/decryption puts on the servers CPU.
