I am sending out transactional emails from my website but our outgoing emails to yahoo and hotmail are being directly sent to the junk e-mail folder. I believe I have setup everything that they recommend(Reverse DNS record, SPF record, published senderId, Domain Keys). I am sending out emails using ColdFusion(CFMAIL) and using smartermail. Anyone have any other recommendations to improve my email deliverability? Does the fact that I am on a VPS hurt my email deliverability?

Hey,

Contact MSN here: https://support.msn.com/eform.aspx?productKey=edfsmsbl&ct=eformts&scrx=1

Contact Yahoo! here:

Hotmail is good at replying...yahoo not so much.

Most of these filters are done either by content or IP reputations. Basically if people complaint about your IP's they will start filtering emails from it. You being on a VPS won't effect that. I have heard thought that CFMail gets filtered by Hotmail a lot. Be persistent with their support and when they start responding to you ask them to exempt your emails while they investigate the issue on their end.

I personally was having the same issues with yahoo. It took over a week but eventually they put me on their whitelist. YOu will spend alot of time going back and forth with them, then finally they should give you whitelist status.

...A LOT of going back and fourth with the same canned responses each time asking the same questions in different orders/different ways...I remember when they changed their filtering and said 'we will try and reply to you within a few weeks....'

Through a rigorous application process, domain keys and SPF records, they have whitelisted our mail server IP. The emails from our mail sever no longer get deferred or bounced. They go immediately right to the users inbox. I'll post the whole process when I have a little more time.
