I just got off the phone with HMS tech support. I wondered if it was viable to apply hotfixes to CF8, as I am running 8,0,0,176276. I was told that in order to do that I would have to migrate to a patched VPS!

Am I crazy or does this seem like the dumbest thing you could imagine? If that's really the case, the virtualization software is pretty bad if it can't handle java mods!

I just spent 2 days beating on an app before I realized that I wasn't running 8.0.1. I seem to remember that Adobe had improved memory handling, java graphic methods, and file locking. I sure hope so, because converting a TIFF to PDF even as a WEBSERVICE won't free up memory on its own. And that's after I cleared all variables manually!

Please, someone in the know respond!

Thanks,
bob

Hello,

I'm not at work right now, but I seem to remember an email being sent out about a new template being deployed for upgrades on current VPS's to get them to at least 8.0.1. If you do the upgrade it would most likely start using some of your alloted hard disk space on the C drive which will cause other problems. Call the new VPS Support line http://www.hostmysite.com/contact/. Ask them to do a backup first then apply the new ColdFusion 8.0.1 template. I'll be in tomorrow around 3pm if you want to wait.

Whoa! There's a dedicated VPS number now? That's great! After all, it's just too hard for everyone to know everything (although that doesn't stop my clients from expecting me to know everything!)

This is definitely something you should have all your front line techs tell us on the phone.

Ray, I have no problem waiting. If you have my info, feel free to go ahead. Otherwise, I'll try to get a hold of you off line.

Thanks so much for responding on your day off! Guess I have to stop grumbling now!

they just rolled out the new number within the past few days... The techs are told during their weekly meetings with managers.. which I don't believe everyone has had yet. Smile

Ray, I just wanted to send you a private message for a heads up.

First of all, I completely forgot that there is a way to save your CF admin settings. I wish I remembered it, and I strongly recommend that you put it in a technote for whomever migrates a VPS for patches.

You see, today I went in via a clients' computer, and waltzed right in--no password was set! And the reason I went in was because a client was complaining that automated update messages were not being sent to their clients. Sure enough, a) the mail server was not set up, and b) the schedules were blank. We both forgot about them!

It's been a bad enough day. I just want to let you know before someone else gets hit with hassles like this.

take care,
bob
